Ravensoft have the knowledge and experience to chose the right platform for your product. Be it a marketing tool, a video game or a business utility we can help you chose the platform that is right for your business.

Take a look to discover our opinions on each platform and learn the benefits that each can bring to you.

Android- The new kid on the block. Although it currently has an insignificant market share it does have the weight of Google behind it so it is definitely the one to watch.  Along with Google’s recent announcement of Google Chrome OS, which will no doubt have similarities to their Android offering this could be the start of true convergence.

iPhone
- The iPhone has made huge waves in the mobile market with its incredible design, ease of use and consumer focus. The platform makes it easy to achieve impressive visual effects and interesting applications.  As it is a new platform it still has a number of flaws which can hinder creative ideas but these are being addressed with each new revision. There are some draw backs to the Apple distribution model, it complicates testing/private releases and they can ultimately refuse your application from their store. With their ever growing market share, however, this is a hard platform to ignore.

Windows Mobile – has not yet been able to take a large market share but with an increasing range of high quality handsets and powerful development tools this platform can quite often be the best choice for the initial mobilisation of existing desktop based applications. With the immanent release of their finger optimised Touch UI (Windows Mobile 6.5) applications will gain a lot in usability.

RIM – The Blackberry operating system has always left a lot to be desired from the user experience point of view, but has delivered one of the best business connected environments.Their proprietary backend systems for web enabled applications makes targeting business logic systems at these devices the obvious choice.  With RIM’s recent devices and their own application store they have started to try and extend their reach into the consumer domain with some success.

S60 – By far the most deployed open mobile operating system.  This platform allows the maximum level of flexibility in application features (background processing, integration with inbuilt applications) along with the recent releases of the touch UI and Nokia’s Ovi store. The platform is currently becoming open source through the Symbian Foundation so it can be guaranteed many more uses will be found for it and you can be assured, as a member, we’ll be at the forefront of the new developments.
